Dr. Arkadiusz Norbert Jaroni’s medical career began almost thirty years ago after he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alberta in Edmonton. While completing this undergraduate work, Dr. Jaroni became interested in the field of medicine. He continued his studies at the University of Alberta, served as the research representative to the Medical Students Association for the class of 1991 and as the Medical Students Association of Alberta representative to the Committee on Environmental Health and, four years later, earned his Doctor of Medicine. Dr. Jaroni also completed two research projects – Isolation of a New Replication Protein, Topoisomerase III (chosen to be presented at the University of Alberta Research Days) and Projection of AIDS patients and HIV infection for Alberta and Canada (published as a report to Alberta Health). In 1991, Dr. Arkadiusz N. Jaroni traveled the more than 4800 km from Edmonton, Alberta to Halifax, Nova Scotia in order to spend a year in an integrated rotating internship at Dalhousie University. Upon completion of this research and the rotating internship, Dr. Jaroni returned to Alberta to participate in a year of general surgery residency at the University of Calgary. During that time he continued his interest in research and completed a project entitled Elective Simple Cystectomy of Symptomatic Splenic Pseudocysts. Now a general practice physician, Dr. Jaroni worked as a medical examiner (coroner) in Mayerthorpe, Alberta and as a locum physician for the Mayerthorpe/Barrhead/Grande Prairie, Alberta area. In 1994, Dr. Jaroni moved to Grande Prairie, Alberta to setup a private general/family practice and work as a medical examiner (coroner) for the city of Grande Prairie. Over the course of the next five years, Dr. Jaroni continued performing medical examiner duties, grew his private practice, worked as a physician at the Grande Prairie Regional College Students and Staff Clinic, was appointed Alberta Medical Association Representative Forum Delegate for the Physicians of the Mistahia Region 13, held the post of Chief of Emergency, Outpatient Department and Family Practice, at the QE II Hospital in Grande Prairie, and became a member at large for the Alberta Medical Association Section of Rural Medicine. It was during this time that Dr. Jaroni began teaching Life Support Courses, starting with PALS and ITLS. Since that time he has added the courses: ACLS, BLS, NRP, ALSO and ALARM, and is looking for more. Then Dr. Jaroni transitioned into Emergency Medicine and moved to Edmonton. He began work at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and, later, the North East Community Health Center emergency departments.  In 2001, Dr. Jaroni moved to Ontario to complete a critical care clinical assistant training program and work with the emergency medical staff at Grey Bruce Health Services Corporation in Southampton and both Grand River and St. Mary’s Hospital in Kitchener. Dr. Jaroni returned to Alberta in 2004 – this time settling in Medicine Hat. From 2004 to 2009, Dr. Jaroni held a position on the emergency medical staff at Palliser Health Region – now part of Alberta Health Services – and on the medical staff of Family Practice Obstetrics. In late 2005, Dr. Jaroni was elected secretary treasurer of the Palliser Medical Staff Organization and served in that capacity for almost three years. While working in Medicine Hat, Dr. Jaroni was recruited by St. Mary’s Hospital in Camrose, Alberta and offered a position as their first full-time ER physician. Dr. Jaroni accepted the offer and – in early 2009 – became the founding member of the emergency medical staff. In 2010, Dr. Jaroni’sduties expanded when he joined the medical staff of the Family Practice Obstetrics Department. In that same year, Dr. Jaroni took over as Associate Zone Medical Director – North East – Central Zone for Alberta Health Services. Dr. Jaroni was appointed Interim Medical Director in 2011 and, six months later, was promoted to Medical Director of St. Mary’s Hospital – a position he proudly holds to this day. In addition to these duties, Dr. Jaroni is the Community Medical Director for Beaver, Camrose and Flagstaff counties. He also chairs the Alberta Health Services Central Zone Medical Advisory Committee and is an executive member of the Family Medicine Department – Central Zone.  In 2012, Dr. Jaroni began preparing future physicians for medical practice by serving as a clinical lecturer for the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary. In his spare time, Dr. Jaroni travels with his family.
